Kolhapuri Chicken Curry

Kolhapuri chicken is a very spicy and exotic dish from the city of Kolhapur in Maharashtra. Chicken curry is made with marination 0f some spicy homemade masala.






Ingredients :

For marinating - 

Chicken - 250 gm
Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tbsp
Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
Garam masala powder - 1/4 tsp
Yogurt - 2 tbsp
Lemon juice - 1 tbsp
Salt to taste

For masala - 

Onion - 2
Garlic chopped - 1 tsp
Grated coconut - 2 tbsp
Tomato - 2
Bay leaf - 
Black cardamom - 1, big
Green cardamaom - 5-6
Coriander seeds - 1 tbsp
Seasame seeds - 1 tbsp
Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
Garam Masala powder - 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste

Method :

Wash chicken pieces well. Marinade of ginger garlic paste, red chilly pwd, garam masala pwd, turmeric pwd, salt, yogurt & lemon juice. Rub well all pices on chicken and keep to marinate for about 30 minutes.

Heat oil in a pan, add bay leaves and whole garam masala and saute for a minute. Then add cumin seeds, coriander seeds, sesame seeds, chopped garlic, coconut pieces and onion, fry until golden brown. Turn off the gas and let it cool.


Meanwhile add sliced tomatoes to blender and make a paste of it. Now add onion masala and grind a smooth 
paste of little water.


Again heat oil in a pan add tomato paste and ground paste, saute for minute.

Then add red chilli powder, garam masala powder, salt and mix well.

Add maritating chicken pieces and mix with masala. Cover and cook at low to medium heat till the chicken 
pieces are tender.

Now Hot and Spicy Kolhapuri Chicken Curry is ready to serve...
