Bottle Gourd Skin Paste (Lau r khosa bata)

This is a typical bong food recipe that is made out of bottle skin which we generally throw away. But I save up all the skin and made it very simply and tasty Bengali dish. I think you all will love to have it. It goes well with plain rice.

Ingredients :

Bottle gourd skin - Medium size whole, finely sliced


Onion - 1, small, finely chopped
Garlic - 5-6 cloves
Posto / Poppy seeds - 1/4 tsp
Kalo jeera/ Kalonji seeds - 1/4 tsp
Dry red chilli - 1
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Sugar - 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Mustard oil - 2 tbsp

Method :

Firstly, place the chopped skin and garlic cloves  in blender. Make a smooth paste with little water.




Heat mustard oil in a kadai. Add kalonji seeds and dry red chilli, when seeds are splutter then add onion, saute for 4-5 mins.


Now add the skin paste with turmeric powder, salt and sugar.



Saute the paste at medium heat till the raw smell goes off or until the paste starts to get light golden brown. At last add poppy seeds, mix well.
